I just got back from
spending the past 3 days
in New Orleans. I
was there for a wedding.
Congrats to Charles and
Ashley. It was a
beautiful wedding and
both of their families
could not have been any
sweeter.
Charles took me on a
tour of the Hurricane
Katrina damage today.
It was amazing to see
such destruction first
hand. Charles took
me to his house which
was under about 10 feet
of water after the levy
broke. The house
will have to be torn
down and rebuilt.
They have been living
with her parents since
the storm hit.
The white FEMA trailers
are good signs to see in
NOLA. That means a
family is living in the
trailer and starting to
rebuild or tear down
their former house.
They live in the trailer
as they work. At
the end of 18 months
they can then buy the
trailer from the
government for $800.
The wedding was
originally suppose to
take place in early
October, but Katrina hit
the week before. I
greatly admire Charles
and Ashley, and
thousands of other
Katrina survivors, who
have bowed their backs
and committed to staying
and rebuilding New
Orleans.
New Orleans is getting
back on its feet.
The French Quarter was
in good shape.
Bourbon was open for the
most part and smelled
like piss, so its about
back to normal. I
talked to several
shopkeepers on Bourbon
street. They
wanted me to tell
everyone that things are
good there and to please
come and visit soon to
help them and the
economy recover.

The
trade of Ron Artest to
the Sacramento Kings
is back on and
finalized. Peja
Stojakovic goes to the
Indiana Pacers in the
deal.

Timeline of Ron Artest's
troubles. Here
are some of my
favorites:
Summer 1999: Before his rookie season,
Artest applied for a part-time job at a Circuit City outlet in the Chicago
area. But the Bulls stepped in before he could begin work ... and benefit
from the employee discount.
Said Artest: "I thought it would be fun. And
I had a friend who worked there."
June 13, 2001: Broke two of Michael
Jordan's ribs during a pickup game. "I'm not sure what happened," Artest
said in the Chicago Daily Herald. "I was just guarding him. I was just
trying to get position because he was posting me up. I don't even recall him
stopping for a brief second. ... I read it in the paper and was like, 'Man,
Mike's ribs got broke. How'd his ribs get broke?'"
May 25, 2002: Girlfriend Jennifer
Palma, mother of one of Artest's sons, accused him of grabbing her around
the neck and by the arm during an argument. No charges were filed, but she
was given a protective order, which Artest allegedly violated several days
later by calling her. Harassment and criminal contempt charges were later
dropped.
January 30, 2003: Suspended four games
(costing him $84,000) after confrontation with Heat coach Pat Riley on the
sidelines during the game, then flipping his middle finger at the fans in
Miami.
Feb. 26, 2003: Suspended one game by
Pacers for smashing a framed picture of himself in Conseco Fieldhouse.
January 1, 2006: Ron Artest, whose
self-titled CD hits stores this summer, told the New York Post that his New
Year's resolution is to: "Teach math classes in elementary schools
throughout the country. And, of course, I want to sell 10 million records."

The FBI says the
MS-13 gang is growing
extremely dangerous.
MS-13 - the focus of a nationwide crackdown
by FBI and federal immigration agents - has become known in recent years for
home invasion robberies, drug dealing and machete attacks on its enemies.
But what happened in Houston on Nov. 2, FBI and Houston police officials
say, has heightened concerns that MS-13 could be far more dangerous than
thought.
The MS-13 suspects swept through the house
like a well-trained assault team, using paramilitary tactics including
perimeter lookouts, high-powered weaponry (an AK-47 rifle was among the
weapons recovered later), and a quick, room-by-room sweep of the house that
was notable for its precision and sophistication, Houston police spokesman
Alvin Wright says. posted 1:41am by jholmes

Virginia Tech has kicked
quarterback Marcus Vick
off their football team.
Vick, the younger
brother of Falcons
quarterback Michael
Vick, has been more
trouble maker than play
maker since arriving on
the Tech campus.
The junior quarterback stomped on Elvis Dumervil's leg after the
Louisville defensive end tackled Vick on Monday during the first half of the
Toyota Gator Bowl.
He also faces charges of speeding and driving on a suspended driver's
license, Cpl. James West said Friday. Police stopped Vick in Hampton on Dec.
17, and he was charged with driving 38 mph in a 25 mph zone, the police
spokesman said.
Virginia Tech had suspended him for all of the 2004 season because of
legal troubles. At the time, Steger said if Vick faced additional off-field
troubles, "his Virginia Tech career is effectively ended."
Marcus Vick played in 11 games as a backup in his freshman year, then was
suspended from school last season after he was arrested, along with
teammates Mike Imoh and Brenden Hill, for giving alcohol to 14- and
15-year-old girls. He pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge.
The younger Vick also later pleaded guilty to reckless driving and no
contest to marijuana possession after a police stop in July 2004.

An Italian court is
set to decide if Jesus
ever existed.
This should be pretty
simple. Didn't
everyone see him
quarterbacking for Texas
on Wednesday night?
An Italian court is tackling Jesus -- and whether the Roman Catholic
Church may be breaking the law by teaching that he existed 2,000 years ago.
Cascioli says Righi, and by extension the whole Church, broke two Italian
laws. The first is "Abuso di Credulita Popolare" (Abuse of Popular Belief)
meant to protect people against being swindled or conned. The second crime,
he says, is "Sostituzione di Persona", or impersonation.
"We're both from Bagnoregio, both of us. We were in seminary together.
Then he took a different path and we didn't see each other anymore," Righi
said. posted 1:36am by jholmes

John Kerry seems to be
positioning himself for another Presidential run in 2008. I guess the
Democrats are really hurting if they want to put him back out there again.
"Obviously, Kerry has all but said he wants another crack at the thing,"
said Neal Thigpen, a political science professor at South Carolina's Francis
Marion University. "He's going to make a second try."
Traveling extensively since his 2004 loss, Kerry generated nearly $5.3
million for dozens of Democratic candidates, state parties and charitable
causes, according to aides.
Kerry has expanded his campaign's e-mail supporter list, a vital
organizing tool if he runs again. He has bought TV and newspaper ads
promoting pet issues such as children's health care and his opposition to
oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. He also reunited
several members of his campaign policy team. posted 12:56am by
