Sonia Sotomayor Selected by Obama for Supreme Court

Nominated Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor

President Barack Obama has selected Sonia Sotomayor to replace Justice David Souter on the United States Supreme Court according to a published report.

Sotomayor becomes the first Hispanic nominated to the Nation’s highest court.  Sotomayor, 54, is currently a Circuit Court judge for the United States.

She will have to go through a tough and likely lengthy Senate confirmation.

Sonia Sotomayor’s Education

  • High School: Cardinal Spellman High School (Bronx, NY)
  • College: Princeton University (A.B. 1976, summa cum laude)
  • Law School: Yale Law School (J.D. 1979, editor of Yale Law Journal)

Federal Judicial Experience

  • U.S. District Court for Southern District of New York (1991, appointed by President George H. W. Bush)
  • Circuit Court of the United States Court of Appeals for the 2nd District (1997, appointed by President Bill Clinton)
