In 2007, before Lady Gaga was born, a cute brunette named Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta spent most of her time go-go dancing at a couple of NY clubs, Le Royal and The Beauty Bar (more pictures below).

According to people who knew the “Poker Face” singer at that time, she was a metal fan, shy, kept to herself and didn’t have much of a personality – all that would suddenly change when she created her alter-ego, Lady GaGa.

A source told RadarOnline, “Stefani loved Motley Crue, she always asked for them whenever she requested songs from the DJ. She was really into her metal music and she always wore her black leather jacket – back in those days I always thought of her as a quiet metal girl, she never really had much of a personality, I had no idea she would transform into this outrageous dance music mega-star.

Stefani’s ex-boyfriend Rob Fusari, who is currently suing the singer for $35 million (more details/photos here), allegedly came up with her new name and convinced her to perform dance music instead of metal.

The source added, “I last saw her towards the end of 2008 at St. Jerome’s, her debut album had dropped and was becoming huge and she looked totally different, she had the blonde hair and was dressed totally differently to how she used to dress, she had become Lady Gaga and left quiet, shy Stefani behind.”

What you see isn’t always exactly what you get. Lady GaGa is a cautiously created alter-ego, a character and whatever is left of Stefani is still there but she is tired. It’s not easy to be GaGa 24/7, Stefani needs a break.
