Russell Brand is taking the high road on his divorce from Katy Perry. Even though the 36 year-old comedian is entitled to half of his estranged wife’s hard-earned money while they were married (around $20 million), Russell is saying “keep it!”

That’s so nice of Russell. Of course, money wouldn’t even be an issue if Katy and Russell had a pre-nuptial agreement, which they didn’t. The two were married for 14 months, so everything they earned should be split 50/50.

Since Katy was actually the breadwinner, having made $44 million during that time, Russell could have walked out of this marriage with a small fortune if he had planned to exercise his community property rights.

Russell is a good boy. A source told TMZ, “This divorce is as amicable as it gets, and Russell was a mensch (Yiddish for a good person).” He doesn’t want Katy’s money! Actually he should feel dirty and ashamed of himself, if he ever considered making a profit out of this divorce.

Brand told reporters at an October 2010 event that he and Perry wanted to keep their marriage as “normal” as possible. ”It ain’t selling the pictures, ain’t doing no prenup. It’s like a normal thing,” he said.

Court documents are vague, and it’s unclear whether there was a prenup or not. And if there was one, this statement suggests that it may not cover all the assets accumulated during their message: ”There are community property assets and obligations of the parties, the exact nature and extent of which are unknown to the Petitioner at this time.”

With Perry’s net worth at $44 million and Brand’s at only between $6.6 and $15 million, you can bet he’s gonna want a slice of that.

To top that off, the two bought $6.5 million home in the Sunset Strip area of Los Angeles in June 2011.
